Closed. Postponed. Cancelled. Three meagre words that put dreams on hold, shut down an industry and have confined grace, passion and dedication to isolation and a makeshift studio. The series ‘Dreams on Hold’ exposes the physical and emotional journey of young ballet dancers in London and surrounding areas, whose dreams were shattered when the first National lockdown was announced. Hair, carefree, yet organised, fashioning the costume of stage, a silent reminder of broken dreams. The joy of dance is hard to mask and while dreams are on hold, they remain alive. Hidden temporarily from the world, but bursting and unwavering - ready to perform when the curtain of gloom rises. Images were taken outside the homes of ballet students in London and surrounding areas between June and August 2020.
